Bar JM Livestock is a family-run cattle and Boer goat operation rooted in generations of Sierra Valley livestock and long-held family cow lines.

Bar JM Livestock is located near Loyalton in Northern California’s Sierra Valley. Jillian and Jason, together with daughters Joey Ann and Jessy, raise beef cattle and Boer goats with an emphasis on sound genetics, functional livestock, responsible care, and youth involvement.
Our program is family-run from the daily chores to the breeding decisions, show preparation, calving, kidding, feeding, and herd health. Joey Ann and Jessy actively own, raise, and exhibit livestock and are an important part of the future of Bar JM.
The cattle program also carries forward maternal families that have been with us for generations. Some current females trace to cows kept for 15–18+ years, while newer genetics are being selected to complement those proven family lines and build the next generation of Bar JM cattle.
Our Parents’ Brand and Herd History
The Rafter C5 Livestock brand belongs to Jillian’s parents and represents the older family cattle operation that Bar JM Livestock works alongside today. Some females in the combined herd are owned by her parents, while others belong to Bar JM Livestock, Joey Ann, or Jessy.
Although ownership varies, the cattle are managed together through shared facilities, breeding decisions, daily care, and long-term planning. Including both brands reflects the true multigenerational structure of the operation.
